My What A Happy Day

May 5, 2012

Today felt like this.

Today, the entire family was together. Husband and I with Austin and Ian. Had #22s at Dan’s Super Subs, played in the park while Austin had his drum lesson, then went to Austin’s jazz band concert. We even Skyped in the car with my dad and baby sister who will be giving birth to my niece any time now…can’t get more family than that.

It was awesome. Being in the auditorium brought back so many happy memories for me. It reminded me how much I love music.

Ian and I almost didn’t go. We had a very rough day yesterday, which included a lot of time in the car, and I was fearful what this day would bring. The lesson I learned (that I keep learning) is to never stop trying. Because yes, Ian may throw the broccoli on the floor the first five times, but the sixth time he’ll eat five bites. And just because he’s super cranky on an outing doesn’t mean I can never take him anywhere. It was just one day.

After seeing his big brother jam, Ian was inspired.

Tomorrow we head to Long Beach for yet another adventure. Ian and I are getting our photo taken by this genius. I’m so excited despite the fact that I have no hairstyle or clothes I like and didn’t have time to get a pedicure. All vanity has pretty much flown the coop…

Shoes

April 27, 2012

Ian cries when he is frustrated. Not an original toddler trait I realize. Still, it can be unnerving.

The majority of frustration cries this week have come from wanting to put on and wear our shoes, which he calls “zoos”.

I think he’s figured it out. Nary a cry.

The Very First Feed

April 24, 2012

There are so many things I love about this video. First and most important, we captured Ian’s very first meal. Then there’s my oxytocin high after 2 days of labor. And Evan’s complete deliriousness after 2 days of labor (notice he’s still able to crack wise).

I’m finally starting to piece together the birth video and wanted to give y’all a sneak peek.

A Boy & His Box

April 13, 2012

Sit down with a cup of whathaveyou for this one. It’s long. And he so wasn’t done with the box after I stopped filming. I recycled it after he went to bed and I’m pretty sure there will be hell to pay in the morning.

The scene: I went into the kitchen for a brief bit of respite (that’s where my laptop lives during the day), and had left one box with the bottom side completely taped up in the living room. Then I heard some squawking and came out to investigate.

Ian & Milo

April 4, 2012

So…I thought the big one was supposed to make the little one cry.

We went over to Milo’s and Milo has a little dog, Bean. Bean and Ian have had a colorful past as Bean likes to bark and Ian likes to shake and cry when Bean barks. But Ian got older and bigger and has played very successfully with Bean and the last few times we’ve been over he has had nary a shake or cry at Bean’s barkiness.

Not today.

Today the combo platter of Bean trotting up to Ian who was standing alone, and then barking once quite triumphantly in Ian’s face startled Ian deeply and for the rest of the visit he never quite recovered. This is evident in the video below, where Milo’s excited baby sounds unnerve my toddler and the big tears started flowing yet again…will try again soon!

The Mayor Of Main Street

March 30, 2012

Mama was headed to a birth, so Ian had another big day on the town with Juli. Thai food, roaming the city streets, checking some tunes via pro headphones. Nothing major. Just another Friday.
