Tatum. A Community Birth Story In Pictures.

A doula as photographer. A promised midwife as doula. A promised midwife as new mother (for the fifth time). A mother midwife who guides us all.

We were on a tropical island as mama made her own waves, listening to ocean sounds from an iphone with a ceiling fan as the breeze. The birth was fast and as we all excitedly anticipated her babe, standing room only, mama, who spoke maybe ten words in the depths of her process, calmly yet firmly stated, “Too many people standing.” We bowed down.

I have but one child, so to see this abundant family unit operate, support, and witness each other brought home the notion once again that really, nothing else matters. Thank you for allowing me in.

    • Wow I think this would be one of my favourite ever photos of the miracle of birth. Simply beautiful – natural – warm and loving – a wonderful experience for the whole family. Nature at its best.

  8. I have a Tatum, too! 😀 A soon to be 9 yr old boy. We’ve only heard of or met 4 other Tatums – Tatum Bell, Tatum O’Neill, and two little girls who are local. Sooo happy to see another boy of color with the name. And that he had a loving homebirth surrounded by what looks like a beautiful community captured in these photos, is even more uplifting today. Congrats to the family!😘

  10. Oh my God! WOW! I feel like I was there. Thank you, my hero for prepping me. This is so empowering, divine, beautiful… it’s the miracle that God keeps performing but so many of us miss out on it because of drugs and modern interventions. This makes me very excited to give birth this way and I’m so thankful for powerful women like you who proves that it can be done. You amaze me, congratulations to you and the team.
